Mallorca is one of the most underrated golf destinations in Europe. While the island is best known for beaches and summer sunshine, it has a well-developed golfing infrastructure with more than 20 courses spread across a varied landscape -- from the dramatic Serra de Tramuntana mountains in the north to the pine-fringed coastline in the east. Combined with reliable weather, direct flights from airports across the UK and a strong hotel offer, it makes for a compelling golf break at almost any time of year.
This guide covers the best courses, where to stay, which areas suit which type of golfer, when to go and what to do beyond the fairways. For packages and availability, visit our Mallorca golf holidays page, or browse the full range of golf holidays in Spain.
The island gives golfers things that few other Mediterranean destinations can match in the same package. The course variety is genuine -- you can play an exclusive parkland layout in the hills above Palma one day and a links-style coastal track the next. Transfers from Palma Son Sant Joan airport are short to most areas, the season runs almost year-round and spring and autumn offer near-perfect conditions with far smaller crowds than the summer peak.
Mallorca also works well for groups travelling with non-golfers. The island has enough beaches, towns, food culture, cycling routes and cultural interest to keep anyone occupied, and the hotel range covers everything from five-star resort properties to smaller boutique options near the coast.
Son Vida is the most historic course on the island, opened in 1964 and set in the hills above Palma among pine trees with views down to the bay. A traditional parkland layout, well-maintained and consistently rated among the best courses in Spain. The Son Vida estate also includes Son Quint and Son Muntaner, making the area one of the strongest multi-course destinations on the island for visiting golfers.
Set in the hills of the east coast, Pula is one of the most scenic and technically demanding courses in Mallorca. It has hosted the Mallorca Classic on the European Tour and is widely regarded as the standout layout on the island for serious golfers. Tight fairways, undulating terrain and excellent conditioning make it a genuine test at any handicap level.
Alcanada sits on the north coast near Port d'Alcudia and is one of the most visually impressive courses in the Balearics, with several holes playing directly along the coastline with views out to a lighthouse island. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., it offers a different character to the inland parkland courses and is a strong choice for golfers who want a memorable setting alongside their golf.
A challenging, hilly layout in the northeast of the island set among almond and carob trees. Less internationally well known than Son Vida or Alcanada, but well regarded locally and popular with visitors based on the east coast. Good value relative to the more prominent courses.
A modern design in the hills south of Palma with generous fairways, interesting elevation changes and strong views across the Mallorcan plain. One of the better newer courses on the island and a consistent choice for visiting golfers based around Palma.
Three courses in the Santa Ponsa area on the southwest coast, each with a different character. Santa Ponsa I is the largest and most established, having hosted the Spanish Open on multiple occasions. A good option for groups who want course variety without long transfers between rounds.
A shorter, mature course near Palma on the southwest coast set in traditional Mediterranean woodland. Suits higher handicappers or those who want a more relaxed, scenic round without the technical demands of the island's more challenging layouts.
Palma and the surrounding southwest coast -- covering Calvia, Santa Ponsa, Portals Nous and the Son Vida estate -- gives the best overall access to the island's courses. Son Vida, Son Quint, Son Muntaner, Son Gual, Real Golf de Bendinat and the Santa Ponsa courses are all within straightforward reach. Palma itself is a genuinely good city with strong restaurants, a cathedral, an old town and a working harbour. The southwest coast hotels cater well to golfers and tend to offer the best-organised transfer and tee time arrangements. This is the right base for most golfers planning a Mallorca golf holiday.
The east coast is the right base if Pula Golf Resort or Golf Capdepera is the priority. It is quieter than the southwest, more rural in character and has a different pace to the Palma end of the island. The beaches around Cala Millor and Cala Bona are among the best on the island. Transfers to the south and west are manageable but longer than from a Palma base.
The north suits golfers with Alcanada on their list. Port d'Alcudia is a busier resort with a long sandy beach; Port de Pollença is more relaxed and popular with British visitors. The Serra de Tramuntana mountains to the west give the north a dramatic backdrop and plenty of interest on rest days. The coastal road from Andratx to Sóller is one of the great scenic drives in the Mediterranean.

Packages can include a free place for groups of eight or more -- ask our team when you enquire.

Hotel Palma Bellver by Melia is a reliable central Palma option with panoramic bay views that punches above its price point. Melia Palma Marina on the waterfront is another practical choice, well run and better value than the estate hotels for those who are happy to take short transfers to the courses.

For couples where one or both partners play golf, the right hotel needs to deliver on both the golf side and the wider experience. Mallorca is well suited to this -- the island has enough beyond the courses to make a full week feel varied and worthwhile for both people.
The marina hotels at Portals Nous tend to suit couples best. Leonardo Boutique Mallorca Port Portals has a relaxed, independent feel quite different to the large resort properties, with the marina, a good restaurant scene nearby and straightforward access to the southwest courses. Hotel Marina Portals sits in the same area and offers a similar balance of location and leisure. For couples who want five-star quality and three courses on the doorstep, the Sheraton Mallorca Arabella Golf Hotel on the Son Vida estate is the clear choice.

View HolidayMallorca is one of the better Mediterranean golf destinations for non-golfers in the group precisely because the island has genuine substance beyond the courses. Palma is a worthwhile city in its own right, the northwest is one of the most scenic areas of the entire Mediterranean and the east coast beaches are excellent.
For non-golfing partners, a Palma-based hotel gives the most options for independent exploration. Melia Palma Marina and Hotel Palma Bellver by Melia both sit within easy walking distance of the old town, the cathedral and the harbour. Son Caliu Hotel Spa Oasis has the beach and full spa on site for those who want to stay put and relax. Day trips to Valldemossa, Sóller, Deià and the north coast are all within 45 minutes to an hour from most bases.
Day trip ideas for non-golfers: Palma old town and La Seu cathedral, Valldemossa village, Sóller and the vintage tram to Port de Sóller, Deià on the northwest coast, the east coast beaches at Cala Millor and Cala d'Or, and the weekly markets at Sineu and Alcudia.
Melia Palma Marina
On the Palma waterfront with the old town, cathedral and harbour all within walking distance. Excellent for independent exploration.

Hotel Palma Bellver by Melia
Central Palma with bay views and easy city access. A non-golfer can fill several days from this base without needing a car.

Son Caliu Hotel Spa Oasis

View HolidayArguably the best months for golf in Mallorca. The island is green after the winter rains, temperatures are warm without being oppressive, courses are in excellent condition and the resorts are well below peak capacity. Prices for flights and accommodation are generally lower than the summer. Highly recommended for any type of group.
Still comfortable and good value mid-week. Crowds begin to build towards the end of the month as the summer season gets going. A reliable choice for golfers who cannot travel in spring.
Peak summer. Temperatures regularly exceed 33 degrees by midday and the island is at its busiest. Golf is possible but early tee times are essential. For non-golfers the beaches and sea temperature are at their best. For a focused golf trip where conditions and pace of play matter, this is not the optimal time.
Strong months for a golf break. September is warm, notably quieter than August and the courses are well maintained. October brings cooler temperatures and occasionally some rain, but the majority of trips are unaffected and prices are competitive. Worth considering if spring is not possible.
The island is quiet in winter and some hotels and restaurants operate reduced schedules. That said, Mallorca rarely sees genuinely bad weather for extended periods and winter golf can work well, particularly in November, February and March. January tends to be the most unpredictable month. Course availability is generally good and prices are low.
Mallorca has enough beyond the fairways to occupy any group for a week without difficulty.
Palma is one of the best small cities in the Mediterranean. The Gothic cathedral La Seu, the Arab Baths, the old Jewish quarter and the modernist architecture along the Passeig des Born are all worth time. The restaurant and bar scene in the old town is strong at all price points.
Valldemossa and Sóller are two of the most visited villages on the island, both in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Valldemossa is where Chopin spent a winter in the 1830s; Sóller is better for lunch and the old tram that connects it to Port de Sóller on the coast is worth taking.
Deià is a small artists' village on the northwest coast with a dramatic setting above the sea. Worth a drive if you are based in the north or west of the island.
The east coast beaches -- Cala Millor, Cala Bona and Cala d'Or -- are some of the best on the island and considerably less crowded than the resorts near Palma.
Cycling is taken seriously in Mallorca and the road infrastructure is genuinely good. The island is one of the best places in Europe for road cycling if anyone in the group rides.
Food across the island is strong. Sobrasada (cured pork sausage spread), ensaimada (a spiral pastry), pa amb oli (bread rubbed with tomato and olive oil) and fresh fish are all worth seeking out. The Mercat de l'Olivar in Palma is a good starting point.
Mallorca has more than 20 golf courses spread across the island. The greatest concentration is in the southwest around Palma and Calvia, with the Son Vida estate alone offering three courses in one location. The north and east coasts each have standout layouts in Alcanada and Pula respectively.
Most established courses in Mallorca require a recognised handicap certificate. Some resort courses are more flexible for casual visitors. It is worth confirming requirements before booking, particularly for Son Vida, Pula and Alcanada.
Mallorca can work well in winter, particularly in November, February and March. The weather is mild compared to the UK, course availability is good and prices are lower than the peak season. January can be less predictable. Some hotels and restaurants operate reduced hours in winter, so it is worth checking in advance.
Yes, without difficulty. Palma is a strong city base, and the island offers beaches, mountain scenery, villages, cycling and food culture that give non-golfing companions plenty to do independently. A Palma-based hotel in particular gives access to enough to fill a week comfortably without a car.
